Natasha Schappert returns to Yoga Space

Natasha Schappert (formerly Natasha Raymond)
Natasha is the original founder of YogaSpace and a certified Integral Yoga teacher and NIA (neuromuscular integrative action) instructor, who has studied a wide range of yoga and dance techniques. Photograph by Laurie Gaboardi.Sitting in a college athletic complex, the 231 members of Brookfield High School's (BHS) Class of 2008 took the next step toward entering a world that is being reshaped by digital communications, high energy costs and the rise of rival nations, and then they returned to their renovated school for an overnight party of games, dancing and saying farewell.
 

Brookfield Selectman Jerry Murphy, who started trying to combat Lyme disease four years ago as a member of the local Rotary Club, said he has become "passionate" about the cause as a result of the travails of Monica Bolesta, a Brookfield resident, whose limbs were temporary paralyzed last year until she was correctly diagnosed.
 

Friends and associates remember former Police Maj. Ralph (Rick) Fortmiller as a versatile administrator who engineered the move to the current headquarters in 1987, established the department's computer system, helped officers excel and was a devoted husband and father.

Salutatorian Joe Anaya, who will be headed to Princeton University in New Jersey this fall, said that through advanced placement (AP) classes, for example, he received a prep-school education at Brookfield High School.

Julie Wamser holds the distinction of being not only the valedictorian of Brookfield High School (BHS) but also a world-class Irish dancer, who, starting this fall, will attend the school of the Fighting Irish with two other members of the Class of 2008.
 

The Board of Finance has approved a mill rate of 18.65 for taxes for the fiscal year that will start next month, an increase from a rate of 17.96, according to town Controller Theresa Mitchell.

Parents of children in the Greenknoll Children's Center, a program with full- and part-time options that the YMCA of Western Connecticut has for 2- through 4-year olds, say that they have options for keeping the program going as the management ponders whether the program could be economically viable.

An athletic center named after a governor who led the state for 10 years has apparently become the permanent home for the Brookfield High School (BHS) graduation.
 

Brookfield High School guidance counselor Dan Eppinger said that, with a growing number of college-bound students and fewer seats available, universities are "rejecting applicants that 20 or 30 years ago they would have accepted with no questions asked."
